What is a natural resource?
Raw materials that occur in the environment and which are necessary or are useful to people.
What is a renewable resource?
A resource which can be replaced over a short period of time.
What is a non-renewable resource?
A non-renewable resource is one that can only be replaced over a thousand to a million years.
Give two examples of a renewable resource?
Water and Solar energy.
List two examples of non-renewable resources.
Coal and oil.
Is water a renewable or non-renewable resource?
Water is a renewable resource because it is constantly being recycled.
Name the places where water stays the longest.
Antartic ice sheets, ground water, glaciers, oceans and large rivers.
Provide your own example to show how the water cycle works.
For example kangaroos drink the water out of lakes, urinate it out then evaporates and gathers in clouds before cooling and falling back down as precipitation.
What is ground water?
Groundwater is the water that is found under the earths surface, especially those in arid and semi arid areas.
What does the world permeable mean?
It means to allow liquids or gasses to pass through something.
What is groundwater recharge?
Groundwater recharge is the process in which water moves down from the earths surface into the groundwater.
What is blue water?
Blue water consists of fresh surface water and groundwater; these two types include the water in fresh water lakes, rivers, wetlands and aquifers.
What is green water?
Water that is stored in the soil or stays on top of the soil in vegetation.
What is rainfall run off?
Precipitation not absorbed by soil, and which runs over the land and into streams.
What does water scarcity mean.
A situation that occurs when the demand for water is greate than the supply available.
