Q

Benefits of volcanic activity

A

Hots springs rise from the ground providing hot water for locals

Central heating

After lava cools there’s often fertile land at the hills around the volcano

Heats greenhouses

Q

Formation of a volcanic mountain

A
  1. The magma reaches the surface through a narrow VENT
  2. It ERUPTS explosively. Lava, boiling mud and ash are hurled through the air
  3. Hot LAVA then flows out through the vent. The lava cools and hardens
  4. Repeated lava flows build up around the vent to form a CONE SHAPED MOUNTAIN

Q

Volcanic activity ??

A

Beneath the earths crust there’s hot liquid rock called MAGMA when plates separate it can force its way through cracks and reach the surface when it does it cools and hardens. It is then called lava

Q

Formation of the mid Atlantic ridge

A
  1. The American and Eurasian plates floating on semi molten rock separate because of the moving currents
  2. As they move apart a long crack occurs in the earths crust
  3. MOLTEN MAGMA from beneath the crust wells up through the crack. The magma cools and hardens to form a ridge beneath the Atlantic Ocean

Q

What are earthquakes

A

Earthquakes occur when plates collide or grind past each other this causes shock waves to get sent out from the focus when they reach the surface the ground trembles causing lots of damage
