Examples
-what you perceive and learn is going to be different than anyone else and that’s a good thing!!
The brain is social
Some of the best learning that you will ever have is to learn in the presence of others.
Examples are study with your classmates or teacher family member
Look for connections
Think of something familiar to you and connect it to what you were trying to learn.
Examples would be acronyms and stories.
Emotions help you remember
Birthday parties nightmares etc. create excitement in your learning.
Breaking things down and reviewing as a whole
- Break tasks into parts but review it as a whole.
- Demonstrate the whole task but learn in chunks.
Limit distractions
Multitasking to learn more is a myth
Research shows greater efficiency by removing distractions!
Brain recalls information best when it’s applied
Use the information to rest learn it, teach it!
Learning occurs by creating synapses
Although it is easier for children it occurs with all ages
As with muscles learning growth occurs through challenge
Great, self-control and perseverance have been shown more important then intelligence
Don’t allow yourself to stress out!
It releases negative stress hormones.
Examples would be negative thoughts leads in ability to focus and learn!

The learning styles?
- Visual
- auditory
- kinesthetic
- analytic wooow
- Spatial
The visual learning style
- prefers symbols charts diagrams pictures videos and colors
- learns best with replacing words with symbols or visual etc.
- creating flashcards
- practicing imaging techniques which you should do
- making mental images of notes
- reviewing learning objective helps with schoolwork.
The auditory learning style
-prefers to hear/record lectures rather than take notes
-discusses topics
-important info should be stated verbally
-works well with others, as it allows talking and listening
-Study in groups rather than alone
-Study aid use repetition: read out loud
Minimize auditory distractions
Kinesthetic learning style
- prefers to learn by doing, trial and air, labs, working with hands
- Learning reinforced with gestures, talking with hands
- make sure to learn correctly, different to unlearn the technique
- should draw and take notes to stay focused on the lecture
- talk/study with another kinesthetic learner
- role-play, use hands to count lists, study in shorter blocks
- tests: read entire question before answering
The analytic learning style
- left hemisphere dominant Learning prefers to read, think about it, re-read, organize, repeat
- Prefers details and lists, has difficulty seeing the big picture!
- should study by writing words and lists and repetition, rewrite things in different ways, use organizational charts
- don’t spend too much time studying unnecessary concepts
- tests: don’t get stuck on one question, keep moving
SQ3R what does that mean?
Survey- check out the chapter and objectives briefly
Question- Think about questions that can be answered
Read- read
Recite-recite what you learned
Review- discuss it with a friend what you read/learned

PTA program success strategies?
- Expect more time to study because you are now expected to apply it to a different clinical situations
- Buy your textbooks
- Study in a study group or teach a family member
- Use the calendar
- Schedule study time with breaks for example a 50 minute study with 10 minute break
- Don’t work too many hours outside of school
- Get some sleep
What are some good test taking skills?
- Read the directions completely and carefully
- monitor your test time
- Don’t second-guess yourself and change your answers
- review missed questions after exam is graded
What are the three phases of test taking?
- First time through-answer only questions that are confident about
- Second time through- Focus on unanswered questions and illuminate responses that are definitely wrong
- third time: analyze
- multiple choice try to answer question prior to looking at answers
- read answers twice
- if any part of true/false is false,the answer is false!
- see if framer is good.
- absolute terms such as always or never
