What is leadership?
The process of influencing an organisation in its efforts towards achieving a goal
What are the different perspectives on leadership?
- Trait approach
- Behaviour approach

What is the trait approach?
People are inherently suited to positions of leadership due to personal qualities
What is the behaviour approach?
Either being task-focused or people-focused
What is the power influence approach?
Amount and type of power possessed by a leader - autocratic or participative
What is the situational approach?
Different leadership traits effective in different situations (contingency theory)
What is the integrative approach?
Considering more than one type of leadership variable
What is a charismatic approach to leadership?
Also known as transformational, focuses on building a clear vision of the future and energising employees
What is a transactional approach to leadership?
Also known as instrumental, focuses on systems and controls and general improvements rather than change.
