It is the process an organization uses to analyze its workforce and determine the steps it must take to prepare for future staffing needs.
Human Resource Planning (HRP) or Workforce Planning (WFP)
It is the process of estimating and projecting the supply and demand for different categories of personnel in the organization for the years to come.

Supply Analysis - (supply forecasting)

Demand Analysis - (demand forecasting)
One of the analytical steps in workforce planning. It compares the differences in the supply and demand analysis and identifies human capital availability and deficiencies.
Gap Analysis (estimating workforce gap)
One of the analytical steps in workforce planning. It focuses on how to address gaps in current staffing and future staffing needs through recruiting, training and development, contingent staffing, and outsourcing.
Solution Analysis (formulating HR plans)
One of the factors affecting workforce planning process. It includes economic developments, political, legal, social, technological changes, and competition
External challenges
One of the factors affecting workforce planning process. It includes divesting, investing, downsizing, and merger.
Organizational decisions
One of the factors affecting workforce planning process. It includes quality and quantity, and diversity of workforce.

Human Resource Planning
Human Resource Planning ensures three main things:
- Adequate supply of human resources.
- Proper quality of human resources.
- Effective utilization of human resources.
