What is other-oriented?
To be aware of the feelings and thoughts of your communication partners while still maintaining your own integrity.
What is communication?
Process of acting on information.
Wha is human communication?
Process of making sense out of the world and sharing that sense with others by creating meaning through the use of verbal and non-verbal messages.
What is interpersonal communication?
Form of human communication that involves managing relationships.
What is impersonal communication?
Form of communication where one treats another as an object.
What are the elements of the communication process?
Source, encoding, decoding, message, channel, receiver, noise, feedback and context.
What is a source?
The originator of a thought or emotion.
What is the difference between encoding and decoding a message?
Encoding translates a message into code and decoding interprets the message.
What is a message?
A written, spoken, and unspoken element of communication to which people assign meaning.
What is a channel?
The pathway in which messages are sent.
What is a receiver?
Person who decides a message and attempts to make sense of what the source has encoded.
What is noise?
Anything that can distract from the message being accurately received as intended
What is feedback?
Response to a message.
Describe communication as an action.
A message is simply transferred from a source through a channel to a receiver.
Describe communication as an interaction.
The process of sending a message to the receiver who then gives feedback back to the source.
