Chapter 1 : Into Flashcards
What is Anatomy
The study of the structure and shape of the body and its part.
Physiology
Study of how the body and its parts work or function
How do Anatomy and Physiology relate to each other?
Function always reflects structure
What are the levels of structural organization?
Chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, organism.
What is Anatomical Position?
Reference point. Standard anatomical body position.
Superior ( Cranial ) Position
Towards the head end or upper part of the body
Ex: Head is superior to the abdomen
Inferior ( Caudal)
Away from the head end toward the lower part of the body.
Ex: The navel is inferior to the chin.
Ventral ( Anterior )
Toward the front
Ex : The breastbone is anterior to the spine.
Dorsal (Posterior)
Toward the back
Ex: The heart is posterior to the breastbone.
the nose is ________ to the forehead.a. posteriorc. superiorb. anterior d. inferior
the nose is Inferior to the forehead.
Medial
Toward or at the midline of the body
Middle
Ex: The heart is medial to the arm.
Lateral
Away from the midline of the body
Ex: The arms are lateral to the chest
Intermediate
Between a more medical and more lateral structure
Three points of reference
Ex : The collarbone is intermediate between the breastbone and shoulder.
the nose is ________ to the ears
The nose is MEDIAL to the ears
The lungs are ________ to the trachea.a. lateralc. intermediate b. medial
The lungs are LATERAL to the trachea.
