Chapter 1: Information Basics Flashcards
A system is
a set of elements or components that interact to accomplish goals
a system consists of
inputs, processes, outputs and feedback
A successful system
meets its goals (it is effective!), at the lowest possible cost (it is efficient)
What is a system
is self contained, operates within an environment (includes everything outside the boundary of the system)
can be manual or electronic
The information technology association of America (ITAA) defines IT as
the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software application and computer hardware
What does an information system do
- collects data (inputs)
- applies knowledge (processes)
- creates information (outputs)
- decision making feedback
in information doesn’t help in decision making, feedback from this system may include
the need to collect different types of data inputs or the application of different processes
What are the 6 major components of CBIS

what is the most important and why in CBIS
people are the most important
- both users (internal and external)
- and personnel who develop, manage, update and maintain it
What are the 8 computer based information systems
- E-commerce
- Transaction processing system
- Workflow System
- Enterprise Resource Planning System
- Management Information System
- Decision support Systems
- Expert System
- Virtual Reality System
What is E-commerce
application that makes use of websites and the internet to facilitate business to consumers (B2C) and business to business (B2B) transactions
What is Transaction Processing System
