Chapter 1 - How Do We See Flashcards
What is perception?
The way the brain makes sense of the visual image detected by the eyes
What 5 features do we rely on when seeing?
Shape Size Texture Colour Distance From Us
What is the retina?
The light sensitive area at the back of the eye. It’s made up of Ross and cones
What are rods?
Light sensitive cells that respond even in dim light
What are cones?
Light sensitive cells that detect colour
What’s the optic nerve?
A bundle of nerve cells that lead out the back of the eye. It carries information from the retina to the brain.
What’s the blind spot?
The area of the retina that has no rods or cones. It’s where the optic nerve leaves.
What’s the optic chiasma?
The cross shape where some of the information from the left eye and right eye crosses over to pas into the opposite side of the brain
What’s the visual cortex?
The area at the back of the brain that interprets visual information
Where’s colour detected?
In cones
