Chapter 1 : Exploring Life (part 4) Flashcards
Kingdom Bacteria
Includes prokaryotic, unicellular organisms
Kingdom Protozoa
Includes unicellular, eukaryotic organisms such as amoebas and flagellates
Kingdom Chromista
Includes unicellular, eukaryotic organisms that may undergo photosynthesis such as some forms of algae
Kingdom Plantae
Includes multicellular, eukaryotic organisms such as red, green, and fresh algae and land plants that undergo photosynthesis
Kingdom Animalia
Includes multicellular, eukaryotic organisms that are heterotrophic, lack a cell wall (found in palnts, fungi, and algae), and pass through an embryonic blastula phase during develpment
Kingdom Fungi
Includes both unicellular and multicellular, eukaryotic organisms that have cell walls containing chitin (different than plant cell walls) such as mushrooms, yeasts, and molds
Examples of Human caused environmental changes
Antibiotic - resistant bacteria, pesticide - resistant pests, endangered species, increasing rates of extinction, changes in peppered moth populations
