Social development
The increasing complexity of behaviour patterns used in relationships with other people
Emotional development
The development of the full range of emotions and optimal way of dealing and expressing them.
Intellectual development
The development of processes in the brain such and thought, knowledge and memory
Gross motor skills
Coordination of large muscle groups such as in the legs and arms
Fine motor skills
Coordination of small muscle groups like in the hands.
Puberty
Biological changes that occur during youth and prepare the individual for sexual reproduction.
Hormones
A chemical messenger that results in changes in the body.
Primary sex characteristics
Body parts that are directly involved in reproduction and forms what commonly referred to as ‘genetics’ and organs of reproduction
Secondary sex characteristics
Changes in both males and females at puberty. These are not directly related to reproduction
Development milestone
Significant event in a persons life e.g learning to walk, getting a job or having children.
Biological determinat
Factors relating to the body that affect health (e.g genetics, hormones, body weight)
Adolescent growth spurt
A period or rapid growth experienced through puberty
Abstract thought
A complex thought process where ideas are focus rather than tangible objects.
Concrete thought
A simple thought process that centres a object and the physical environment
Youth
The ages between 12 and 18
Self esteem
How you feel about yourself
Self concept
How others feel about you
Individual development
The series of orderly, predictable chances that happen between conception and birth
