Chapter 1: Beginnings Flashcards
What is an SLR
Single-Lens-Reflex camera. We use a 35mm SLR.
What is the most important difference among film with B & W photography.?
Film Speed.
What is Film Speed?
How sensitive the film is to light. Every film has an ISO number that rates its sensitivity. The higher the ISO number the more light sensitive the film is.
What ISO would you use for indoors or a low light situation?
400 ISO.
What ISO would you use in bright light outdoors, or with a flash?
200 or lower.
Referring to your film, What is the Leader?
The tapered end of the film sticking out.
In the camera back there are two chambers, what are their purpose?
The left chamber is where the film usually goes. The right chamber contains a take up spool, which winds the film as it advances out of the cassette.
What does a take up spool do?
Winds the film as it advances out of the cassette.
What are sprocket holes?
Square perforations along the edges of the film.
What is the shutter button?
The button used to take pictures and to initiate film advance.
What is the film counter?
Usually a window on top of the camera (or LCD screen) That indicates that you’re ready for exposure, or how many photos you have left.
What is a viewfinder?
The glass window, on the back, top part of the camera that you look through when taking a photo.
what is exposure?
The amount of light the film receives.
How do you get correct exposure?
First set your ISO number so your built in light meter knows how much light your film needs, then adjust your Aperture and shutter speed for the right light and exposure.
What is a light meter?
A meter in the camera that helps guide you to a correct exposure.
