Step 1: recognize that an emergency exist
What do you have to be aware of to recognize that an emergency exist????
Unusual nosies, unusual sight, unusual odors, unusual appearance and behavior
List Examples of unusual nosies.
- Screaming, moaning, yelling, or calls for help.
Breaking of glass, crashing metal, or screeching tires - A change in sound made by machinery or equipment
- Sudden nosies such as the sound of collapsing building of fallen ladder
Unusual silence.
List example of unusual sights
- A stopped vehicle on the roadside Or car that has run off of the road
- Downed electrical wires
- A Person laying motionless
- Spilled medication or empty container
- An overturned pot in the kitchen
- Sparks, smoke, or fire

- Odors stronger than usual
- Unrecognized odors
- Inappropriate odors

- Unconscious
- Confusion, drowsiness, unusual behavior

What are the most common factors that keep people away from responding to an emergency????
- Panic of doing something wrong
- Being unsure of the persons condition and what to do
- Assuming another person will take action
- Type of injury or illness
- Fear of catching diseases
- Fear of being sued
- Being unsure when to call 911
What do you do if you are not sure what to do????
Call 911, the worst thing to do is to do nothing
What type of injuries you might see in an emergency??
Blood, vomit, bad odor, deformed body parts or torned or burned skin. But you have to get in control of your self and give care
What is the Good Samaritan law???
Law that protects people against claim of negligence when they give emergency care in good faith without expecting anything in return.
To be covered by the Good Samaritan law you should.?
- Move a person only if the person’s life is in danger
- Ask a conscious person for permission, also called consent, before giving care
- Call 911 immediately
- Check for life threatening conditions before giving care
- Continue to give care until more highly trained EMS takes over.
How do you activated the EMS system and what should you have ready when your call is answered????

What is express consent????
When a conscious person who understands your question and what you plan to do gives permission to give care
What is implied consent
People who are unconscious or unable to respond such as a unconscious, confused, mentally impaired, seriously injured or seriously ill person.
What do you do to get a permission from a injured or ill person???
- Tell them your name
- How much training you have
- What you think is wrong
- What you plan to do
- Ask permission to give care
What is the difference between bacteria and virus???
Bacteria can live outside the body and do not depend on other organism to live and they can be treated with medication like antibiotics
A virus depends on other organism to live, once it’s in the body it’s hard to stop there progression, FEW medication can fight viruses
What are the standards precaution to prevent disease transmission???
- Avoid contact with blood and other bodily fluids or objects that might be soiled with blood or bodily fluids
- Use protective CPR berating barriers
- Use barriers such as gloves
- Cover any of your cuts or sores with bandages before putting on gloves
- Do not eat, drink, touch your mouth, nose, eyes, before washing your hands after giving care
- Wash your hands with warm hot soapy water
How to you clean up blood spills????
- Clean up spill immediately
- Use disposable gloves
- Wipe up spill with paper towel
- If spill is mixed up with broken glass or needles use a tong, a broom, and dustpan or two pieces of cardboard
- After area had been cleaned flood the area with an appropriate disinfectant such as approximately 1 / 1 half Cups of liquid chlorine
- Dispose contaminated material in an bio hazard container

If you are alone:
Do not do further harm monitor person breathing
Call 911 before giving care for:
any adult or child about 12 years of age who is unconscious
A child or infant who witnessed sudden collapsed
An unconscious child or infant know to have heart problems
Give care first for 2 minutes then call 911 for:
an unconscious child younger than 12 who you do not see collapse
An drowning victim.
How do you give care for conscious person?
- No farther harm
- Monitor breathing and consciousness
- Help person rest in comfortable position
- Keep person chilled or overheated
- Reassure Person
- Give specific care needed

Shock is a condition in which the circulatory system fails to deliver enough oxygen rich blood to the body’s tissues and vital organ
What are the signals of shock??
- Restlessness or irritably
- Alterd level of consciousness
- Nausea or vomiting
- Pale, ashen, or grayish cool moist skin
- Rapid breathing and pulse
- Excessive thirst.
What to do until help arrives for shock
