Quantitative Variables
Set the subjects into different categories.
Categorial Variables
How to solve for proportion?
Proportion = #in category/ # in sample population
The overarching group about which we want to know something
Population
Parameter
A summary of the population
What percent of stat 2000 students transferred? Find population and parameters
Percent and transferred are parameters
Stat 2000 is the population
Sample
A subject of the population from which we take measurements
Statistics
A summary of the sample data
A sample that includes entire population
Census
What variable is generally described by proportions
