People don’t pay attention to him, so even bad attention is good for him.
“I could swim when I was five. Daddy taught me. He’s a commander in the Navy.”
Strong male role model- unlike Piggy. He’s asserting his masculinity.
“Ralph looked at him, eager to offer something.”
He’s being kind- trying to prevent future conflict.
