health and wellbeing
is the overall state of a persons physical, social, emotional, mental, spiritual existence and is characterised by an equilibrium in which the individual feels happy, healthy, capable and engaged.
illness
is a concept that relates to negative aspects of health and wellbeing it is subjective. Things that can influence illness pain threshold and support.
disease
is a physical or mental disturbance involving symptoms, dysfunction or tissue damage.

health status
an individuals or populations overall health, taking into account various aspects such as life expectancy, amount of disability and levels of disease risk factors.
life expectanty
an indication of how long a person can expect to live, it’s the number of years of life remaining to a person
HALE
health adjusted life expectancy is a measure of burden of disease based in life expectancy at birth, but including an adjustment or time spent in poor health.
mortality
deaths particularly at a group or population.
mortality rate
number of deaths in a 12 month period
maternal mortality rate
amount of mothers die as a result to pregnancy or childbirth
morbidity
refers to the amount of ill health in an individual and the levels of ill health in a population or group.
incidence
the number of new cases of a disease/condition in a population during a given period
prevalence
The number of cases of a disease/condition present in a population at a given time.
burden of disease
a measure of the impact of diseases and influences, it measures the gap between health status and an ideal situation where everyone lives free of disease and disability. It is measured in DALY
daly
is the equivalent to one year lost due to premature death or the equivalent of healthy years lost as a result of living with a disease or disability.
