Bonds and Recognisances
Contracts between the nobility and the Crown in which the aristocracy promised to remain loyal to the King.
War of the Roses (1455-85)
Civil War between House of Lancaster and House of York. Led to a DECREASE of AUTHORITY OF THE CROWN. Crown had changed hands six times from 1453 to 1485.

Privy Council
Inner cabinet consisting of the Kings leading ministers.
Council Learned in Law
Role of the council was to defend the kings position as a feudal landlord and make sure he received all the financial dues owed to him.

Medieval code relating to the forms and conventions of aristocratic warrior lifestyle.
William Warham (1450-1532)
Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Chancellor from 1507. Represented the old regime which Henry wanted to move away from. Resigned in 1515 and replaced by Thomas Wolsey.

An exemption from an obligation of canon law given by the papacy.

The revival of classical literature and artistic styles. Change in values.
