Gives attributions to behaviour (why we do something) Casual and non-random. Try to determine personality. Look for further behaviour that confirms assessment.

Lay Definition of Psychology
Two aspects of Behaviour
1) Consistency - consistent patterns of behavior
2) Intrapersonal processes - emotional, motivational and cognitive processes that say how we and and feel.
Alport’s definition of Personality
1) Dynamic - constantly adjusting and adapting
2) Psychophysical - mind and body in personality
3) Characteristic patterns - personality remains relatively stable across situations
4) Behaviour, thoughts and feelings - personality is central to how we experience our lives.
Psychological construct
concept that is not directly observable.
Assumes that all people can be described on a single dimension. Look for common traits. Force people into categories
Nomothetic
Unique combinations of traits that best account for one single persons personality. Focus on traits unique to individual.
Idiographic
Facial features influence personality. Links facial features with traits.
