Developmental Change
The accumulation and integration of relatively permanent, age-related change, in biological and psychological systems through transactions with the environment
Developmental Change comes in 4 forms:
It’s Gradual, Cumulative, Relatively Permanent, and Transactional
Prone position
baby is on its stomach; this facilitates development of reaching and grasping leading to crawling
Supine position
baby is on its back
Regression
child has achieved a certain milestone, but progression has slowed and child has reverted to previous behaviors; unlikely to self-correct
Opportunity Factor
supports development and promotes the realization of the potential for growth that the child possesses; Events OUTSIDE THE CHILD
Risk factors
influences that undermine development and sacrifices the child’s potential; events OUTSIDE THE CHILD
Vulnerability Factors
tendency to fall prey to risk, threaten’s child’s development; INSIDE the child
Resilience factors
tendency for child to overcome risk; INSIDE the child
