Chapter 1 Flashcards
Anatomical, Directional, Cuts, Body Cavities, Quadrants
What are the 4 anatomical positions?
- Standardized position to study human anatomy
- Head facing forward
- Legs/feet shoulder width apart
- Palms facing ventrally and anteriorly
How do you establish Left and right?
We establish using the patients perspective
Superior
Toward the head end or upper part of a structure/body
Inferior
Away from the head end/ toward lower body
Ventral/Anterior
Toward or at the front of the body
Dorsal/Posterior
Towards the back of the body
Medial
Towards the middle & Seperates the body into L & R halves
Lateral
Away from the middle of the body / Outside
Contralateral
Opposite sides of the body
Ex: L leg & R arm
Ipsilateral
Same side of the body
Ex: R arm & R leg
Intermediate
Comparinhg 3 things: Between, medial and lateral structure
Ex: My nose is intermediate of my L & R eyes
Proximal
Closer to the origin body
Ex: My elbow is proximal to my wrist
Distal
Further away from the origin of body
Ex: My wrist is distal to my elbow
Superficial
Towards or at the body surface
Ex: My skin is superficial to my muscles
Deep (internal)
Away from the body surface
Ex: My heart is deeper than my skin
How many body planes are there and name them?
There are 4:
1. Median/Midsagittal Plane
2. Frontal/Coronal Cuts
3. Transverse/Horizontal
4. Oblique Cut
Median/Midsagittal
Median Cut: Equal L & R Halves
Frontal/Coronal Cuts
Seperating ventral (anterior) and dorsal (posterior) halves
Transverse/Horizontal
Superior and inferior halves
Oblique Cuts
Diagnol Cut
2 Major body cavities
- Cranial & Vertebral (located dorsal side)
- Thoracic, abd, pelvic and abdpelvic cavity
(located ventral side)
What does Visceral organs refer to?
Referred to guts, intestines, etc.
What are the abd pelvic quadrants?
Looking at the patients view:
RUQ | LUQ
RLQ | LLQ
What are 2 main anatomy regions and what does it include?
- The axial: head, neck & trunk; it forms the main vertical axid of the body
- Appendicular: Upper & lower limbs; which attach to the axial region
