What’s Sustainability?
The ability to meet the present needs without compromising the ability of the future generation’s to meet their needs.
Explain the difference between the single and triple bottom line:
the single bottom line is the sole focus on generating profit, and the triple bottom line tells us that companies should also focus on their social and environmental impact- in addition to profit (People, Planet, Profit).
What is Sustainable Developement?
using natural resources in a way that prolongs the earths ability to support its population.
Define “Carrying Capacity”:
The maximum population an environment can suppport.
Which is affected by the resources available in that environment, like food, water, or shelter.
What are 3 major events (with year) that happened regarding the origin of sustainability?
1987 - The brundtland report defined “sustainable developement”.
1995 - The first COP event, which was hosted in germany.
2015 - The UN defined the 17 sustainable developement goals (SDG) in COP 21
Why is the 2015 UN Paris agreement significant?
It is an international treaty with the main goals to:
- Limit global warming to below 2 degrees.
- Increase adaptation to climate impacts.
- Align financial flows with these objectives.
