The state of of complete physical, mental, and social well being not just the absence of infirmity and disease
How can health status be measured?
Birth rates, life expectancy, death rates, and prevalence of disease
What is population health
The health outcome of a group or individual and the distribution of the outcomes within the group
What’s a population
People identified by their shared community, location, ethnicity and occupation
What are the 5 broad determinants of health
Genetics
Healthcare
Individual behavior
Physical environment
Social environment
What’s genomics
The study of a persons genes and other genes along with the environment
What is a health disparity
Differences among people because of either an economic or social disadvantage
What is the continuum of care
Range of services needed to care for a an individual or population. ( Parental care to end of life care)
External environments affecting HCO
Governments, competitors, economic forces
Who are stakeholders
People or organizations who have an interest in what the HCO does ( patients, employees, governments)
