adolescent
A person between 12 and 18 years of age.
infant
A baby from 1 month of age to 1 year of age.
neonate
A baby from birth to 1 month of age.
Pediatric Trauma Score
A scoring system developed for the evaluation of pediatric trauma patients, similar tot he Glasgow Coma Scale.
petechial rash
Small, pinpoint red spots presenting in the skin.
preschool age
A child between 3 and 6 years of age.
purpuric rash
Larger purple or black spots presenting in the skin; can be seen on the body of a patient who may have meningitis.
school age
A child between 6 and 12 years of age.
sclerosed
The hardening of a vein due to age or from scar tissue after repeated cannulation.
tissue extravasation
Accidental IV infusion into the extravascular space.
toddler
A child between 1 and 3 years of age.
