What are the stages of the client-trainer relationship?
Action, planning, investigation, rapport
What is the rapport stage?
This is a stage where there are a mutual trust and understanding between the client and the trainer. Rapport builds overtime, positive first impressions are important, verbal and nonverbal communication is important.
What is the investigation stage?
This is a review of the clients fitness and health information, medical clearance for exercise, exercise history and overall goals.
What is the planning stage?
This is when your client is ready to begin exercising. The personal trainer organizers an exercise routine.
What are smart goals?
Specific measurable attainable relevant time bound goals.
What is motivational interviewing?
Using probing questions to find out more information, active and effective listening, increasing self-confidence, maintaining a friendly conversation and encouraging the client.
What is the action stage?
The action stage is when the client begins to work out.
What is the difference between a process goal and a product goal ?
A process goal is something a client does, such as completing a certain number of workouts per week. A product goal is some thing achieved, like weight loss or a resistance lifted on a strength training machine.
What are systems of self monitoring?
This is a system for recording exercise session, including any relevant data to personal trainer and client wish to track. Research shows that self monitoring is one of the most effective ways to support behavioral change. Self-monitoring increases client self-awareness and self monitoring acts as a way to give the client a more objective view of their behaviors. Self monitoring systems enhances client trainer communication.
What is tell, show, do?
A way to introduce a new skill. The trainer begins with a short explanation about what the exercise and reasoning for it, the trainer shows client the exercise and allows for the client to practice with helpful feedback.
What are behavioral contract?
A contract used to help make a commitment to behavioral change. Contracts typically spell out the behavior the client is expected to perform.
What are strategies for effective communication?
Cultural competence,Engaging difficult clients that require more effort, gaining empathy and rapport, maintaining professional boundaries
What are the stages of learning in the Client trainer relationship?
The cognitive stage, the associate of stage and the autonomous stage of learning.
What is the cognitive stage of learning?
When clients try to understand a new skill. The technique tell, show, do should be used in this stage.
What is the associative stage of learning?
When clients begin to master the basics and are ready for more specific feedback.
