Q

Why would a smaller cube have a larger surface area compared to its volume?

A

It can be compared to an amoeba. Since it has a large surface area compared to volume, it can take up everything it needs just by diffusion alone whilst a big cube cannot have its needs carried out by diffusion alone due to the layers.
