- Forced the POWs to assemble at the Padang-> Marched them to Changi jail or Selarang Camp

1. Chinese males age 15-50 were made to report to reporrting centres , where the Kempeitai sifted out threats of Anti-Jap
2. Innocent people were swept up as well
3. Those sifted out sent to execution sites eg, Changi, Punggol, Siglap, HarborFront

What happened and why did the Jap coerce the Chinese Business community?
- To Punish the Chinse for their contributions to the China Relief Fund
- Overseas Chinese Association (OCA), lead by Dr Lim Boon Keng was a channel of communication between the Chinese and the Jap government
- Singapore and Malaya Chinese businessmen had to contribute 50 Million in cash

How did the Japanese use propaganda to win loyalty and why?
- Made people accept the vision of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, and a united Asia
- Conveyed through radio and posters
- Used to influence Indian community to be Anti British, but they remained loyal to British

- Provided school and accomodation for free
- Malay nationalist group responded favourably to JO, were promised better lifes under Japs-> treated better and less harsh
- Distributed food items to less fortunate during Hari Raya
- Malays and Indians were charged less then Chinese to cross causeway
