what is community?
A
a unified body of people that include them:
- living in a common area
- w/ a common interest or background
- linked by common history
- of diverse background in an interacting population

A
- a sense of belonging
- feeling of purpose
- being acknowledged and valued
- connects people together

what is an individualistic culture?
A
- people are thought to be unique, separate, and autonomous individuals/ their own personal rights, goals, and needs.
- they put their own goals first before the group

what is a collectivist culture?
A
- people are seen in terms of their relationship to groups such as their family, tribe, religious co-believers, or country.
- activities are guided by the goals, norms, and beliefs of the group
- they put the groups needs first before their own needs

what are the 4 ways to relate to majority culture? (AMSI)
A
- Assimilation: giving up their own culture to identify with the majority culture
- Marginalization: rejecting both their own culture and the majority culture
- Separation: identifying only with their own culture and rejecting the majority culture
- Integration: keeping their own culture while still trying to blend in with the majority culture

- the individual (their sense of membership in the group)
- the group (their values and behaviour that distinguish them from other groups)
- the society: (acceptance, prejudice and discrimination)
