Q

what is the history of IOT

A

the internet started out as part of DARPA in 1962 then ARPANET in 1969.
1980, public use of ARPANET.
1993, GPS became reality with the department providing a system of 24 satellites.
1999, kevin ashton became the first to describe IOT.
2013, the IOT had evolved into a system using multiple techologies.

Q

what are the disadvantages of IOT

A
  1. high nbr of devices -> a lot of information shared -> nbr of hackers increase
  2. bug in the system = all connected devices corrupted
  3. difficult communication for devices from different manufacturers
  4. the presence of a big number of devices can make collecting and managing data challenging.

Q

how does IOT work?

A

there are smart devices in the IOT ecosystem have embedded processor , sensors and communication hardware which enables them to collect, send and act on data that the they acquire from their environments.
They share the sensory data they collected by connecting to an IOT gateway to the cloud so that the data could be analyzed.
Most of them work without human intervention, although people can interact with the devices for example to give instructions, access data etc…

Q

what is the sensing layer

A

its main purpose is to identify any phenomena in the devices peripheral and obtain data from the real world.
it consists of several sensors and there are 3 categories:
1. motion sensors
2. position sensors
3. environmental sensors

15
Q

Environmental sensors

A

they sense the change in environmental parameters in the device’s peripheral.
The primary use of this sensor is to help the devices take autonomous decisions according to the changes of a device’s peripheral.

16
Q

what is the network layer

A

it acts as a communication channel to transfer data collected in the sensing layer to other connected devices. it uses different communication technologies.

17
Q

what is data processing layer

A

It consists of the main data processing unit of IOT devices.
it takes data collected in the sensing later and analyses the data to make decisions based on the results it also improves user experience.

18
Q

what is application layer

A

it implements and presents the results of the data processing layer.
it is a layer that executes various tasks for the users

19
Q

what are some IOT platforms?

A
  1. Microsoft azure IOT
  2. Amazon web services
  3. google cloud computing platform
20
Q

where can IOT be applicated ?

A
  1. in indoor and outdoor agriculture
  2. consumer use : wearables and smart homes
  3. health care : wearables , smart beds
4.smart city : traffic control , advanced parking system
  4. industrial automation: manufacturing , bill payement
