What does exploring a child’s stutter mean?
- That you truly get to know a client
- what are their goals from treatment
- what are their beliefs about stutter
- what are their core behaviors/secondary beh.
- what are their thoughts/feelings
- Must show genuine interest, show you are unafraid
What are some good ways to explore a child’s thoughts and feelings about stutter?
-Have child draw feelings and have them talk about their drawing
What are the FIVE specific fluency skills
- flexible rate
- pausing
- easy onsets
- light contacts
- proprioception
If you combine all five fluency skills what is the result?
SUPERFLUENCY
What is proprioception
feeling where the stutter/tension is in your articulators/mouth when in a stutter. Often done by having client practice FREEZING when in the middle of a stutter
What is scaffolding?
providing extra support for the child as he works up a hierarchy of difficulty.
What two additional groups of people besides the client do you work with when you have a intermediate stutterer? (school age child who stutters)
