Chap 1 continued Flashcards
what does atomic mean?
A system element that cannot be further decomposed
what is a system element
an atomic element or a system in its own right
what does integration mean?
The relationship between the EFFECTS, that organising system elements has on their INTERACTIONS ans how these EFFECTS enable the sys to acheive its PURPOSE
What is a system hierarchy?
A representation of sys structure using a partitioning relation. A complete set of distinct system elements, suppressing details of interactions.
What number of elements should be in each level?
5-9
What is a system of systems?
A system of interest whose elements are independent systems. These interoperating systems produce a result not posible by individual systems alone.
How to decide if system of interest is a Sys of Sys?
op independence of constituent systems, managerial indep, geo distribution, emergent behaviour, evolutionary development processes
What is special about a complex system
interactions between parts exhibit self-organisation, local interactions give rise to novel nonlocal emergent patterns
What are the challenges associated with engineering a SoS?
- systems have their own owners
- no common leadership
- not optimised for sos
- have own req
- changes independently of SoS
- difficult to measure performance/validate
