Q

What is the outer core?

A

The layer after the inner core made mainly of metals such as iron and nickel. It is very hot and liquid, with temperatures ranging from 4000-6000 degrees Celsius.

Q

What is the crust?

A

The crust is the thin outer layer of the Earth in which we live on. It is made up of rocks and minerals, and much of the crust is covered by water. It is thickest under the continents and thinest under the seas.

Q

What is the Moh’s scale of hardness?

A

Moh’s scale of hardness is a scale for identify how hard a mineral is, 10 at the top (being diamond) and 1 at the bottom (Talc). A mineral with a given hardness can scratch a mineral of a lower hardness, eg. diamond can stratch corundum (2) but corundum cannot scratch diamond.

Q

Pumice can float on water because….

A

It has tiny holes of air in it allowing it to float.

19
Q

Shattering of rock by frost is…

A

Physical weathering

20
Q

True or false?

Lustre refers to the colour of the rock.

A

False. Lustre refers to how shiny the rock is.
