Changes of State of Matter Flashcards
What do you call the process from solid to gas?
Sublimation(e.g iodine)
What do u call the process from gas to solid?
Deposition
How does temperature affect kinetic energy?
The higher the temperature, the more kinetic energy there is.
When the liquid is freezing(losing heat) what happens?
(Answer in microscopic, particulate and representation)
- Distance decreases between particles
- Vibrates at a slower rate, less vigorously
- From SLIDING over one another within the liquid to vibrating in fixed positions
When the liquid is evaporating(gaining heat) what happens?
(Answer in microscopic, particulate and representation)
- Distance increases between particles
- Vibrates at a faster rate, more vigorously
- From vibrating in fixed positions to SLIDING over one another within the liquid
What happens when the cooling/heating curve is at a constant temp?
It indicates that the substance is changing in state of matter
Why does the temperature remain constant when changing the state of matter
the heat energy stays constant as it is used to overcome the forces of energy for the matter to change states thus making it unable for kinetic energy to increase thus temperature stays constant
