  • Field artillery developed, more manoeuvre-able and more efficient.
  • Used more, England sent 120 extra cannons to campaign in Netherlands.

Infantry

  • Pikemen replaced bill men, Swiss pikemen were unbeatable.
  • Matchlock muskets replaced arquebus, armour piercing shots, easier to load, easier to train than longbows.
  • By 1560s muskets have replaced archers.

Cavalry

A
  • Pistols developed in 1540.
  • Use of cavalry changed. Trained to ride up to the enemy to fire pistols then circle round. However the charge still worked for Swedish.
  • Cavalry wore less armour as there was less hand to hand combat.
