- Most generals wanted 2:1 infantry to cavalry
- The ratio was decided on supply, depending on what troops you had

Artillery
A
- Field artillery developed, more manoeuvre-able and more efficient.
- Used more, England sent 120 extra cannons to campaign in Netherlands.

Infantry
A
- Pikemen replaced bill men, Swiss pikemen were unbeatable.
- Matchlock muskets replaced arquebus, armour piercing shots, easier to load, easier to train than longbows.
- By 1560s muskets have replaced archers.

Cavalry
A
- Pistols developed in 1540.
- Use of cavalry changed. Trained to ride up to the enemy to fire pistols then circle round. However the charge still worked for Swedish.
- Cavalry wore less armour as there was less hand to hand combat.
