Vestment Controversy

A

Vestment - clothing that Priests wear
Royal Injunction - Lizzy stated clergy to wear special vestments
Puitans resisted this - clergy should wear no vestment or simple
Part of the Vestment was the surplice - Puritan priests rejected the surplice as it was worn by Catholics - opposed AofU
37 priests resigned but the rest of the clergy gave in

Crucifix Controversy

idoltry, replace

Puritans bishop wanted to ensure all crucifixes were removed from churches
Was seen as idoltry and undermined the purity of Godโ€™s message through the bible
Puritan bishops threatened to resign, Elizabeth backed down as she could not replace them with educated Protestant clergy with similar ability
