Chainsaw Flashcards
8 parts of saw
6HP 2cycle w\decompressionnvalve, 20 inch bar w/carbide or green chain, chain brake, starter cord, 4 position master control switch-off,on,warm,cold, fuel reservoir 50:1 mixed gas, bar oil with automatic oiler, air filter
After use and cleaning the saw should be left in ready position 4 things
Decompression pin engaged, chain brake on, cold start position-squeeze throttle while sliding master control switch down), ignition/choke/throttle lock on
Daily checks
Fluids, chain-condition/tension/direction of travel, ensure controls I’m ready position
Weekly check
Start saw (idle 30-60 sec, rev 15 sec intervals for 1 minute until warm, idle 30 seconds shut down), ensure it’s oiling with stuff on ground, chain clutch should stop or barely move, chain brake operates properly, check starter cord for fray
Safety 8 pack
Full PPE, Work between hole and point of egress, try to be on wind ward hole especially when clearing, never cut in line with body or above head, work with one foot on roofer if needed, engage chain brake before handing to someone else, Carry saw with bar aimed behind you, beware of kick back
If flooded
Turn choke and ignition off, pull cord 4-5 times, follow normal procedures without choke
How to start (6 steps)
Start with saw on ground or solid surface with 2 points of contact, pull cord until ignition or engine sputters, slide mcs up one position until warm start and resume pulling starter cord until needed, don’t pull the cord until end of rope or snap back into housing, warm up before revving, when starting saw that was already running-start in warm
After use
Disassemble covers, guards,chain, air filter
Blow off debris with air compressor then clean using solvent
Ensure fins on cylinder head are clean to prevent overheating
Clean air filter with compressed air and replace when heavy soiled
Flip bar after each use
Reassemble and check chain condition, tension, direction of travel
Replace chain 3 straight, 6 or more, or carbide tips have visible wear
Tension chain tightly while still allowing movement
Check chain tension during operations
Start to ensure proper assembly
Refuel and bar oil
Place controls in ready position
