CHA2DS2-VASc risk assessment Flashcards
What does the CHADS2-VASc calculate the risk for?
Stroke risk with atrial fibrillation
What do the final scores suggest about risk?
0 = low risk (may not require anti-coagulation if non-valvular AF) 1 = low-moderate risk 2 = moderate-high risk
What scores are used for what age?
<65 = 0 65-74 = 1 >74 = 2
What scores are used for sex?
Female = 1 Male = 0
Name all parameters except for age and sex which give a score of 1 if present.

What parameter gives a score of 2 if present?
Stroke/TIA/thromboembolism history
What risk factors would you ask about in past medical history?
Congestive heart failure Hypertension Vascular disease Diabetes Previous stroke/TIA/VTE
What are the guidelines for anticoagulation based on the final score?
2 or more points = anticoagulation with warfarin or DOACs
1 point = aspirin alone or full anti-coagulation depending on patient
