What does the ABCD2 tool assess risk for?
The risk of a stroke after a suspected TIA
What is the parameter and points regarding personal details of patient?
Age = +1 point if over 60
What are the parameters surrounding details of the TIA?
Clinical features:
unilateral weakness = 2
speech disturbance without weakness = 1
other symptoms = 0
Duration:
<10 minutes = 0
10 mins to an hour = 1
> 1 hour = 2
What is the parameter regarding past medical history and the scoring for this?
History of diabetes = 1
What are the score ranges for overall levels of risk?
0-3 = low 4-5 = moderate 6-7 = high
What should you do if a patient has a low risk score?
If score less than 3, consult neurology within a week
What should you do if the patient has a score of 3 or above?
Consult neurology within 24 hours
Consider MRI or carotid ultrasound
