Ch9 Overwater Requirements Flashcards
When are overwater operations necessary to be considered?
Flights over water in excess of 1000 NM
What is an equal time point (ETP)
Point expressed in miles from which the same amount of time will be required to either return to the takeoff point or continue to the destination. Calculated from takeoff to ETP at cruise altitude then from ETP to destination or departure airport with one engine inoperative at 10,000 ft.
What is emergency on deck fuel (EODF)
Absolute minimum planned fuel required upon landing after experiencing a rapid decompression or engine failure at the most critical point along the route of flight (ETP).
What is the minimum EODF
500 lbs
What is the minimum fuel at the ETP
the fuel to continue to destination (or divert) plus 500 lbs
What is the point of safe return (PSR)
Furthest poin along the route to which the aircraft can fly and still return safely to the point of departure on 2 engines with fuel for holding and flying to departure alterate.
What is the point of no return (PNR)
Furthest point along the route to which the aircraft can fly and still return to the point of departure and land with no fuel remaining on 2 engines.
Minimum takeoff fuel if no alternate is required, but available.
Fuel to destination + 10% + 45 minutes endurance at 10K
What is the minimum takeoff fuel if alternate is requred
Fuel to destination + fuel to alternate @ 10K + 10% + 45 minutes at endurance at 10K
Minimum fuel if no alteranate is available
Fuel to destination + 10% + 1 hour 15 minute holding @ max endurance at 20K
