Project managers can apply Covey’s 7 habits to improve effectiveness on projects
• Be proactive
• Begin with the end in mind
• Put first things first
• Think win/win
• Seek first to understand, then to be understood
• Synergize
• Sharpen the saw
Control a situation by making things happen rather
than waiting for things to happen and then reacting
to them.
Be proactive
Focus on what you really want to accomplish, and
how you want to be remembered in your life.
Begin with the end in mind

Prioritize your time. Most people need to spend more time doing things that are important but not urgent, like planning, reading, and exercising.
Put first things first
When you use a win/win paradigm, parties in potential conflict work together to develop new solutions that make them all winners.
Think win/win
Empathic listening is listening with the intent to
understand. It is more powerful than active listening.
This will help the project managers to understand the
stakeholders’ needs and expectations.
Seek first to understand, then to be understood
If you do synergize, you will have extra energy, power,
success, etc. that is achieved by two or more people or
companies working together, instead of on your own.
Synergize
