Formulary
The official prescribing information for a prescription drug; the medication informatin sheet provided by the manufacturer that includes side effects, dosage forms, indications, and other important information
Package Insert
Trademark of a drug or device held by the originating manufacturing company
Brand/ Trade name
Comprehensive information on a medication’s actions within that class of drugs; also lists generic and trade names, ingredients, dosages, side effects, adverse effects, how the patient should take the medication, and foods or other drugs to avoid while taking the medication
Monograph
Categorization based on a various characteristics, including the chemical structure or a drug, the action of a drug, and/or the therapeutic or anatomical use of a drug
Drug Classification
A list of drugs that are not included in the list of preferred medications that a committee of pharmacists and physicians deems to be the safest, most effective, and most economical: they are drugs not included in the drug list approved for reimbursement by the health care plans
Non-Formulary
Reference book found in pharmacies that contains detailed information on more than 22,000 presription and 6000 OTC medications; drugs are divided into therapeutic groups for easy comparison
Drug Facts and Comparisons
The proprietary or brand name given to a drug by the company who developed it; the trade name may be related to the function or main use of the drug
Trade name
The makeup of a chemical, including the elements, the shape, the bonding types, the molecular configurations, charges, and so on; the nature of the chemical’s structure has much to do with the chemical’s stability, reactivity, and physical and chemcial properties
Chemical Structure
Name assigned to a medication or nonproprietary name of a drug
