What are some health problems that are associated with being underweight?
Greater risk of infection from cold viruses and other pathogens, undernourished (fail to take in enough essential nutrients on a regular basis to ensure normal growth and body function), fatigue, irritability, greater risk of anemia, irregular menstrual cycles, greater risk of developing osteoporosis later in life
What are some of the causes of eating disorders?
Obsessed with weight, poor body image, social and family pressures, and perfectionism. Depression and substance abuse can also cause eating disorders.
What type of illness is an eating disorder? What are the factors included?
Eating disorders are a psychological illness. Mental and emotional factors cause it.
Name some symptoms of anorexia nervosa.
Sudden, massive weight loss, lying about having eaten, denying feeling angry, consuming minimal amounts of food in front of others, preoccupation with food, calories and weight, signs of excessive addiction, withdrawing from social activities, believe that he or she is overweight.
Compare bulimia nervosa with anorexia nervosa.
Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder where people overeat, and force themselves to purge the food afterward (also called binging and purging). Meanwhile, Anorexia nervosa is where a person abnormally restricts his or her calorie intake. But, unlike bulimia, anorexia nervosa has a lot to do with weight, calories, or being “thin.” Although, there are some similar symptoms with bulimia and anorexia nervosa. People with bulimia’s body composition do not change while anorexics do. Bulimia you eat a lot (and then Purge), while with anorexia you don’t eat it all.
What are some of the health risks associated with bulimia?
Bulimia health risks are dehydration, osteoporosis, kidney damage, and irregular heartbeat.
List three symptoms of Bulimia differ from symptoms of anorexia.
Three symptoms of Bulimia that differ from symptoms of anorexia are the use of laxatives and diuretics, eating large amounts of foods without weight gain, and practicing strict weight-loss programs followed by eating binges.
Define bigorexia.
An eating disorder in which an individual falsely believes he or she is underweight or undersized. Bigorexia is more common in males than females.
How is over training related to any disorders?
Overtraining is related to eating disorders because individuals and athletes may find that they perform best when they are very lean, causing a desire to stay thin.
Explain the type of eating schedule that helps maintain a higher resting metabolic rate.
Eating several small meals a day (three to five), and snacks, will help you maintain a higher resting metabolic rate.
How can vegetarians make sure they get all the nutrients they need in their diets?
They eat a variety of foods, such as fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, dairy foods, and eggs.
