Ch5 Sampling From Populations Flashcards
What is a subject?
A nonhuman that is subjected to procedures in a research study and to identify the names of research designs
What is a participant?
A human who volunteer to be subjected to the procedures in a research study
What is the difference between a target population and accessible population?
A target population is all members in the group or population of interest to a researcher, where as an accessible population is a portion of the target population that can be clearly identified and directly sampled from.
Why is it important to select a representative sample?
Because researchers went to generalize the results they observe in a sample to those in the target population
Name two types of nonprobability sampling methods?
Convenience sampling and quota sampling
Name two strategies that researchers use to ensure that characteristics in a convenience sample a representative of characteristics in the target population
Quota sampling in which researchers select subgroups of the population which characteristics that resemble or represent characteristics in the target population
use a combined sampling method in which they combined convenience sampling with probability sampling methods
To use simple random sample in a researcher should use sampling with replacement or sampling without replacement?
Sampling with replacement
What sampling method involves selecting all individuals from a portion of subgroups in a population?
Cluster sampling
How is standard air related to sampling error?
Sampling error which occurs by chance is measured numerically by the standard error of the mean
What is one way to reduce sampling error?
Increase the sample size
What is the difference between sampling bias and nonresponse bias?
Sampling bias is a bias in which the sampling procedures employed in a study favor certain individuals or groups over others, where as nonresponse bias is a bias in which a number of participants in one or more groups chose not to respond to a survey or request to participate in a study
What is it statistical tests specifically applied to identify new populations or subgroups within a larger population?
One sample t-test
