different expectations associated w/ a specific status
ex) student = status
- attend class, study = role
role expectation
ways a specific role SHOULD be played
role performance
the way a person ACTUALLY plays a role
role conflict
incompatible role demands placed on a person from 2+ statuses at a time
-mom, employee, sister etccc
role strain
incompatible role demands are built into a single status that a person occupies
ex) having two exams in one day
social group
2 or more people who interact frequently / share a common identity, feeling of interdependence
