Ch30 Pituitary Drugs Flashcards
Cosyntropin
-adrenocorticol insufficiency
Travels to the adrenal cortex, located just above the kidney and stimulates the secretion of cortisol
Promotes renal retention of sodium which can lead to edema and hypertension
Somatropin
Drug that mimics GH
-drug promotes linear growth in children who lack normal amounts of the endogenous hormone
-increases water reabsorption renal retention
Growth plates open is indicated for use/ closed growth plate is contraindicated/ can cause hypo/hyperglycemia
Oceotride
Inhibits GH release
Carcinoid tumors
Esophageal varices (large vein in neck)
VIP-diarrhea and flushing
EKG monitor
Can impair GB
Vasopressin
Mimic actions of adh -concentrate urine
Used for hypotensive emergencies (septic shock) and cardiac arrest
-used for bleeding of esophageal varices
Caution with asthma and cardiovascular disease
Risk for fluid overload
Desmopressin
mimic ADH/ hemophilia A and type I von Willebrand Caution with asthma and cardiovascular diseaseip/ blood clotting factors
Blood disorders,peeing at night
Caution with asthma/ renal disease/ CV disease/seizure disorders
Risk for fluid overload
Octreotide should reduce symptoms of?
Carcinoid crisis
If a child’s growth plate is finish developing can you give somatropin?
No because contraindicated can cause hypo/hyperglycemia
Which hormones secrete from anterior and posterior pituitary?
Anterior-TSH,GH,FSH,ACTH,LH prolactin
Posterior-ADH,Oxytocin
With Octreotide acetate the prescriber May order?
Electrocardiography because possible adverse effect of conduction abnormalities
Therapeutic effect include improved symptoms related to carcinoid tumors vipoma or esophageal varices
