Engineering controls eliminate or reduce job site hazards. PPEs are the last safety control because they only serve as a barrier for the hazard that take already place.
What is a JHA, and why is it conducted?
A job hazard analysis is a system that analyses each step to accomplishing specific activities that a crew will perform and requires the employees to understand all hazards that take place with such activities. JHA’s help prevent job site injuries by bringing hazard awareness for each step of a specific task.
What are the project superintendent’s responsibilities regarding project site safety planning and enforcement of company safety policies?
Because the superintendent has a a solid grasp of job site conditions and the hazards that exist with constructibility procedures, their involvement in developing a job site safety plan is crucial. They must create a list of hazards that take place for all activities that take place from day-to-day. Superintendents should monitor employees to ensure the proper use of PPE, tool handling and ergonomics. They must also be an influence by demonstrating good safety habits.

Safety inspections depend on the project size and associated constructibility hazards.
