Acoustic Neuroma
A unilateral benign tumor that occurs where the vestibulocochlear nerve (CN VIII)enters the internal auditory canal.
Benign Paroxysmal positional Vertigo (BPPV)
A common cause of vertigo, free-floating debris in the semicircular canal causes vertigo with specific head movements, such as getting out of bed, rolling over in bed, and sitting up from lying down.
External Otitis
Inflammation or infection of the epithelium of the auricle and ear canal.
Meniere’s Disease
A progressive disorder leading to an accumulation of endolymph in the membranous labyrinth. onset is usually between 30-60 years of age.
Nystagmus
An abnormal eye movement that may be seen as a twitching of the eyeball or described by the patient as a blurring of vision with head or eye movement.
Otosclerosis
A hereditary autosomal dominant disease, common cause of hearing loss in young adults, occurs due to spongy bone developing from the bon labyrinth preventing movement of the footplate of the stapes in the oval window, which reduces the transmission of vibrations to the inner ear fluids and results in conductive hearing loss.
Presbycusis
Hearing loss due to aging, where sound transmission is diminished by calcification of the ossicles.
Tinnitus
Ringing in the ears, may accompany the hearing loss that results from the aging process.
Vertigo
A sense that the person or objects around the person are moving or spinning.
