CH2 Flight and Fuel Planning Policy Flashcards
hat units are used for structural weight limitations and fuel loading?
kilograms
What is the max reduction in ZFW for the 777-300ER?
4000kg
In what order should fuel be burned form the wing and centre tanks?
Centre tanks first
Then tank to engine
Then use cross-feed to correct any imbalance
What is the standard taxi fuel? What about at LAX, LHR and HKG?
510kg
720kg at LHR/HKG/LAX
What is the fuel temp limit for in flight? What is the freeze point of Jet A1 and Jet A?
3˚C above certified fuel freeze temp for the type of fuel?
Jet A1: -47˚C
Jet A: -40˚C
Is PDA used for taxi fuel? Why?
No, because taxi fuel is already a conservative estimate and required figures tend to get rounded up to the nearest hundred
What is fuel tankering?
Extra fuel carried because it is cheaper to carry extra fuel and burn a little extra fuel, than buy the fuel at the aircraft’s destination
What fuel is required for an A-B flight when an alternate is not required?
- Taxi
- Trip
- Contingency
- Instrument Approach & Landing
- 30 min fixed final reserve
- Extra holding at B (@1500ft)
- Extra to cover ETP
- PDA allowances
What differences are there in the fuel required when an alternate is required to be nominated?
- Diversion fuel
- Visual approach fuel at alternate
- Only need 30 min holding fuel overhead alternate
What does THFA stand for? What is it?
Traffic holding fuel advisory
NOTAM that advises aircraft to carry extra fuel for holding
What is DARP?
Dynamic Airborne Route planning
Allows aircraft to be rerouted to a more optimal user preferred route (UPR)
What are the options for crew if a new DARP required more fuel that is allocated for the flight?
- Create a DDP flight plan
- May be advised to use discretionary fuel (tanker fuel)
When should a “minimum fuel” radio call be made?
When it is expected that the fuel on landing will be approaching the flight planned minimum fuel, based on the current clearance or ETA.
When should a “Mayday Fuel” radio call be made?
When it is assessed that the flight will land with less than minimum fuel reserves
How does CoG affect fuel burn? How should it be dealt with?
Forward CoG increases fuel burn
If forward CoG is expected PiC or flight planer may allocate extra fuel in accordance with the company policy
