Why was WW1 started?
There were military tensions between Germany , Austria-Hungary and Britain, France, Russia
What happened on 28 June 1914?
The archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were shot at Sarajevo in Bosnia.
Who were the Allies?
Britain and its empire, France, Russia, Italy and USA from 1917->
Who were the central powers?
Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey and Bulgaria
Where was the western front?
From the Belgian coast, through France to the Swiss border
Where was the eastern front?
From the Baltic to Black sea
What happened at 11am on 11 November 1918?
Germany signed an armistice (ceasefire)
Who were the big three?
Woodrow Wilson president of America, David Lloyd George British prime minister and Georges Clemenceau French prime minister.
What did president Wilsons 14 point peace plan say?
- nations should only have a small defence army
- countries should avoid making special treaties with eachother
- people of one race and language should be able to set up own government-> self determination
- a league of nations established to keep peace
What happened on 28 June 1919?
A treaty was signed in the hall of mirrors at versailles
What did the treaty of Versailles say?
- Germany signed a war guilt admitting responsibility for war
- Germany paid reparations of £6600 million
- Alsace-Lorraine returned to France
- lost land to Poland, Denmark and Belguim-> population all over the place
- German army = 100,000 and the Rhineland (border region of Belgium, France and Germany)was to be demilitarised
What were the treaty of versailles weak points?
- Germany was not allowed go so Hitler said it was a dictated peace and didn’t follow it
- Russia not invited
- Italy did not get what promised
What is a democracy?
A country where you are free to choose own government
What is a dictatorship?
When a country is led by one ruler or party

In russia in 1917 run by Vladimir Lenin
