To grant a prisoner an early release from prison with certain restrictions
Parole
Type of court in which a judge or a jury listens to the evidence and reaches a verdict or decision in favor of one party or another in the case
Trial court

Misdemeanor
Court case in which one party in a dispute claims to have been harmed in some way by the other
Civil case
The person in a civil case who claims to have been harmed
Plaintiff
The person in a civil case who is said to have caused the harm
Defendent
Type of court in which a party who lost a case in a lower court asks judges to reveiw that descion and reverse it
Appellate court
Type of crime more serious than a misdemeanor
Felony
