patient watches for clues but keeps healthcare team unaware of what they know.
What is open awareness? In regards to the terminally ill?

What does denial entail during the 5 stages of grief?
Initial reactions which should be supported by silence and acceptance of the person w/out discussing death
What does anger entail during the 5 stages of grief?
occurs as a result of the realization that life will be interrupted before everything the person planned has been accomplished and will soon be forgotten
What does bargaining entail during the 5 stages of grief?
focuses on hope and may be based on religion. hope itself can reduce stress
What does depression entail during the 5 stages of grief?
occurs when remission ends and additional treatments must begin
What does acceptance entail during the 5 stages of grief?
can occur only if enough time is provided and if the pt is appropriately helped through the other stages.
